Urban & Community Forestry Program
Serving the people of the Virgin Islands
What We Do
Enhancing Community Forestry
The Virgin Islands Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program Grant is designed to encourage citizen involvement in creating and supporting long term and sustained Urban and Community Forestry Programs throughout the territory. Through the competitive Challenge Cost Share Grant Program, the UCF Program works to build local capacity for Urban and Community Forestry activities. The UCF Program seeks proposals for project funding from local government, non-profit organizations and civic and/or educational organizations. Groups with projects in line with the listed priorities for this program (page 3-4) are strongly encouraged to apply.
Outreach
We strongly encourage community collaborations throughout the territory. Working together to better the lives through healthy urban and community forests is a primary goal of the UCF Grant Program. Creating and developing urban and community forestry events for the public is highly supported.
Education
The UCF Grant Program supports educational efforts about urban forestry and community forestry. Schools are encouraged to apply to build forestry curriculum into existing programs, plant school forests, develop forestry summer camps and workshops, and other innovative ideas!
Tree Plantings
Tree plantings and demonstrations are a great way to involve and teach the public about the importance and value of trees to the community. Trees provide many proven ecological, biological, hydrological, societal, and economical benefits.
